“Professional portfolios are helpful tools for both new and experienced teachers, enabling them to reflect on achievements and identify their own learning goals”

Kadir’s Portfolio

My goals in teaching are not just to promote learning of the subject matter. I also try to help the students learn to think logically, learn problem-solving methods and techniques, and improve writing skills (writing clearly and concisely, explaining step-by-step processes, providing valid reasons for logical arguments). In addition, I try to help students see the lesson material in a holistic context by requiring them to synthesize the various concepts of the lesson by applying them together.

My primary objective is to foster the development, growth and success of each student. According to me, student learning is paramount and comprises not simply the transference of knowledge and skills, but also a process of intellectual, artistic, political, ethical, physical and spiritual exploration. I think such learning is the mutual responsibility of the entire student. I know the dignity and intrinsic worth of the individual and will make every effort to plan the lessons to meet individual needs, interests and capacities.

Text Box: Opening StatementsIn fulfilling these objectives and goals, I affirm my intention:

  • to provide the highest possible level of education in order to help students develop and realize their goals;
  • to provide the highest possible level of access to a student that reflects the cultural and socio-economic diversity of the community;
  • to provide students with opportunities for the development of values, ethical behaviour, aesthetic appreciation, and a sense of community responsibility;
  • to provide students with opportunities for social and personal growth;
  • to enhance self-esteem and a sense of individual responsibility;
  • to provide a good school climate that encourages tolerance, mutual respect, politeness, and the free and open exchange of ideas;
  • to inspire an appreciation for the values and contributions of other cultures and to foster a global and international perspective among all students.

Rationale:

Portfolio is a coherent set of material that represents the teaching practice as related to student learning.  I prepared this portfolio for myself, to crystallize some insights about my path of development as a teacher.  The purpose of this portfolio is to express my ability to teach junior level to senior level. I wish my portfolio must display professionalism, my individual personality, and be visually pleasing.  Moreover, the opening statements of portfolio address my overall ability to teach junior level as well as senior level.
