Creating the dynamic classroom – A Handbook for Teachers
Ø Susan Schwartz
Ø Mindy Pollishuke
Here is a collection
of web sites that I used and think may be useful. I posted one for each subject and then also 6 additional web-sites that
you can use for any Science subject in Intermediate / High School classes.
CHEMISTRY
http://www.rsc.org/
The Royal Society
of Chemistry boasts to be one of the largest organizations in Europe for advancing Chemistry. (Can’t argue with that) What I really liked about this web site is how resourceful it is….something
for everyone, teachers, students and scientist….make sure that you check out their CHEMISTRY GAMES….my favourite
was the “ identify the element” game…..Hook your students to Chemistry!!!!
PHYSICS
http://www.physicsclassroom.com/
I used this
web site a lot for my concept presentation. It includes animations, detailed explanations and it is geared towards high school
students. They have a tutorial, multimedia studio and Physics Help section. Go
Physics Go!
BIOLOGY
http://science.nhmccd.edu/biol/animatio.htm
This web site
has plenty animations that you can look at. It is basically a collection of Science animation, movies and interactive tutorials.
Not all of them work, but exploring around is definitely worth your time. Bring life to your Bio teaching!
Science web-sites-
apply all subjects
HOT TOPICS-BBC
http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/hottopics/
My FAVOURITE
web site! It is a great way to make connections between Science and what teenagers like to talk about. Ever wonder why Superman
is like a plant? (Link to Bio) What the physics of throwing a football is? What the chemical composition of chocolate is?
Want to know more about love? Cosmetics? Cell phones? Etc...…. GO CHECK IT OUT! Don’t delay!
BBC LEARNING
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/websites/16/
I have great
respect for the BBC web-site! Even though it is not tightly linked to our Ontario curriculum, their revision web site is age
appropriate and good student resource for Physics, Biology and Chemistry. I used
it even in middle school because I found it to be a good interactive site.
NASA
http://www.nasaexplores.com/previous_topics/previous_all.php
NASA is an
excellent resource for Science teacher, they have ready to use Lesson/ Unit plan for all Science teachers. Most Physics teachers
drool over this site ;) I posted a link that has articles and ready to use activities,
but feel free to explore their web-site.
SCIENCE NEWS
http://www.cbc.ca/science/
http://www.nytimes.com/pages/science/index.html
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/default.stm
Want to make
connections between Science and Literacy. At these 3 respectable news web-sites you can find the latest news related to Science.
I browse these sites every once in a while and collect articles that I think might be useful.
