Kadir’s Portfolio

According to me, teaching is my passion and it is a lifelong learning process for me and students as well.  I strongly believe that, teacher is a role model for the students and prefers student-centered class room to create real life environment.

As per my experience, the teacher is a facilitator, guider and decision maker.   I always establish a good rapport with students and their parents.  In my class room I use various instructional strategies to make the class room more interesting and keep the students on task.

As a teacher, I identify various types of diversity in my classroom depending upon their learning styles, learning ability, race, ethnicity, socio-economic background, gender, sexual orientation and culture. I teach my students to give mutual respect to each other and celebrate diversity in my class room. I do recognize and acknowledge the value of other languages, inclusive symbols, posters in my class and preserve our bilingual heritage and promote multiculturalism.

I always determine students’ level and help him or her to achieve and succeed in their learning process.  I promote a positive learning environment that accommodates diverse learning styles and needs.  I strongly believe that, students are more actively involved in the learning process when they can see and build with hands on activities and apply the knowledge in their day to day life.

Text Box: Personal Belief StatementI strongly believe by linking the students’ prior knowledge and their real life experiences they become more engaged in what they are learning. They begin to see a purpose in learning as they transfer and adapt knowledge and strategies from one context to another and to develop creativity and problem-solving skills. Learning becomes meaningful and "fun". The benefits student get from this concepts are immense like: increased interest in tasks, greater depth of understanding, a degree of understanding and willingness to use strategies.

I am a very good team player.  I co-operate with principals, colleagues, administration, parents and community people to enhance the school culture and school spirit.  I am very patient, flexible, open minded, creative and cooperative person.  I always commit myself to ongoing professional development to enhance my learning knowledge.

I like to participate in community and cultural activities. In my spare time, I enjoy working in the community as a volunteer.  I have been working with Spelling Bee of Canada since 2005.  I also work in my neighbourhood as an interpreter and give guidance to the new comers.

Rationale:

Teaching and learning are two words that carry very different meanings, but are drawn together by the process of education.  Learning is a lifelong process.  Teachers must continually change with the times, as well as grow and mature as new learning occurs.  In order for children to learn, the teacher must be well educated and know the content area well enough to teach the same material in a variety of ways.  All subject matter should be taught with enthusiasm and pride.  Learning should encompass the entire student, mentally, physically, and emotionally.  Educators should support each child as he/she becomes an individual in search of beliefs and morals.

Educators are providers of the future.  They are the people that make or break what will happen in the next decade.  It is important to realize that all educators have personal opinions and beliefs, with no right or wrong answer. What will take place in one classroom may be completely different in the class next door, but learning will most likely occur in each room.  What is important is that as future teachers, we are aware of the children, the ways that teaching and learning should occur, and the discipline and classroom management techniques needed to prepare our children for the future.
