Teachers communicate effectively with their students
and establish clear goals for learning. They possess a repertoire of inquiry techniques and teaching strategies, and use a
range of tools, activities, and resources to engage their students in learning. They select and organize the content in logical
and structured ways to meet learning goals. They are proficient at managing the range of behaviours and situations that occur
in the classroom and establishing a climate where learning is valued and fostered. Teachers create safe and supportive learning
environments and recognize and are attentive to their child protection and welfare roles.
Teachers plan for learning, and utilize a range of formative and summative assessment techniques to report on learning
and to inform their planning. They understand the need to evaluate their teaching and the importance of providing both formal
and informal feedback to students as a stimulus to learning.
Good Teaching Practice
Principles
- Encourages student
- Encourages cooperation among students
- Encourages active learning
- Gives prompt feedback
- Emphasizes time on task
- Communicates high expectations
- Respects diverse talents and ways of learning
Here are some personal teaching practices
I have used productively:
Ø Clearly stating the goals at the beginning of the
year
Ø Precisely spelling out how students will be evaluated
Ø Providing feedback,
or grade submitted work promptly
Ø Stating the
"rules" at the beginning
Ø Being strict/just/fair
on policy/rule/protocol issues, but being reasonable/flexible/adaptable on everything else, if possible
Ø Engaging students
with a variety of teaching activities
Ø Addressing the
diverse learning styles, maturity level and social/economic factors that make up a class
Ø Establishing a clear link between the unit outcome(s)
and the knowledge & skill gained
Ø Providing self evaluation opportunities so students can
monitor their progress
Ø Using a
mix of "lower cognitive" & "higher cognitive" questions on quizzes to challenge students on multiple levels
Ø Fostering a positive collaborative environment so students
can experience and be successful in teams.
Ø Engaging students in a constructive feedback circle for
individual, and teacher improvement
Rationale
I think the professional standards that guide and reflect exemplary teaching practice and
continuous professional improvement are essential to effective teaching and learning.
In professional education, it is insufficient to learn for the sake of knowledge and understanding
alone; one learns in order to engage in practice. As per my opinion, professional
education involves teaching ideas, facts, and principles so that they can contribute to skilled professional practice. Professional pedagogies are continuously attempting to forge connections between key
ideas and effective practice. As a true professional I do not merely practice
I will perform with a sense of personal and social responsibility. I will make
sure professional practice must be characterized by integrity, by a commitment to responsible, ethical service.
It’s also insufficient to claim that combination of theory, practice, and ethics defines
a professional’s work; it is also characterized by conditions of inherent and unavoidable uncertainty. Professionals rarely can employ simple algorithms or protocols of practice in performing their services I might say that professional education is about developing pedagogies to link ideas,
practices, and values under conditions of inherent uncertainty that necessitate not only judgment in order to act, but also
knowledge of the consequences of every action. I always believe, the learning
takes place from experience.
I strongly consider the standard of practice; ethical standards and professional frame work
are inter-connected-each of them deriving effectiveness through its relation to others.
They describe a culture of care, support and meaningful instructions for students, an ethic of professionalism and
a shared environment of responsibility with other educational partners-all reflecting the desire to create a community of
lifelong learners.
